Tread carefully through the ashes and avoid breathing in the smoke… You are invited on a virtual walk with Alice Ford-Smith uncovering the history of books long burnt in London’s streets, squares and alleyways.
Stories of censorship, riot and war await your attention amongst tales of accidents, art and architecture. The outcomes are rarely happy but they demonstrate just how dramatic the history of London’s books and libraries can be.
From the comfort of your chair or sofa, the walk starts on the outskirts of the City before making its way into the heart of Bloomsbury. There will be time to quiz Alice at the end.
