Harry Potter's The Marauder's Map to Auction
The Marauder's Map used by Daniel Radcliffe in the Harry Potter movies goes under the hammer next month at Propstore’s Entertainment Memorabilia November 14-17 auction.
The map (estimate: $25,000 - $50,000) made its first appearance in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban when it was given to Harry by Fred and George Weasley who stole it from Filch and used it to sneak around Hogwarts. Harry then used it in later films to track the whereabouts of teachers, students and hidden rooms and passages. It is owned by David Holmes, Daniel Radcliffe’s stunt double in the first six films until he suffered a life-changing injury on set.
He recently discovering this piece while researching his forthcoming book The Boy Who Lived which is released on November 14. While rummaging through his memorabilia he made this discovery tucked in amongst his 'get well' cards from his time at the hospital following his injury. Proceeds from this sale will go toward enhancing David's quality of life by funding the purchase of wheelchairs, mobility equipment, and covering his personal care needs.
The map is printed on intentionally distressed and aged paper, with water stains and brown spotting. It folds out and features numerous map sections detailing areas of the school. The centre of the map features a smaller fold-out section which includes three-dimensional pop-up staircases. The map has creasing and fold lines where it has been handled. Dimensions (folded): 40 cm x 21.5 cm (15.75" x 8.5").
