This catalog features rare, antique and decorative books as well as select additions of ephemera and artwork. Impressive private collections include important scholarly works and multi-volume sets. The art and print pieces include items signed, Tamayo, and engravings. Among the ephemera lots is a large collection of railroad-related items and important Americana.
Antique and rare books in this catalog feature numerous titles. Among the earliest examples are the 1765 printing of Edmond Hoyle's "Almanach du Whisk" (Whist), Barruel's "Memoirs Illustrating the History of Jacobinism," produced in four volumes in 1798, and a 1789 issue of the Philadelphia periodical, "The Columbian Magazine." Other scarce titles include a first edition association copy of Brutcher's "Joshua - A Man of the Finger Lakes," alleging Rockefeller criminal activities, the 1897 first edition of Jenkins' early cinematographic work, "Picture Ribbons - An Exposition of the Methods and Apparatus Employed in the Manufacture of the Picture Ribbons," and the 1852 first edition of Trench's work on London architecture, "Royal Palaces and Hints for Other Improvements in the Metropolis," printed with fold-out plates and maps.
Several pleasing collections will also be featured. A fine selection of antique titles relating to Masonic and Mormon history include titles such as the 1814 first edition of Lenoir's "La Franche-Maconnerie Rendue a Sa Veritable Origine," produced with fold-out plates and diagrams, the 1938 limited edition of Kelly's "Journals of John D. Lee - 1846-47 and 1859," and Bennett's "The History of the Saints or an Expose of Joe Smith and Mormonism," printed in 1842. This auction will also include our first session from a large personal library containing an exhaustive inventory of 19th and early 20th century titles focusing on Judaica, anti-semitic movements and Nazi-era history. Additional collections include railroad-related, mysticism, theosophy, travel & exploration, Quaker history & doctrine, author-signed, antique children's books, Americana, and much more.
Found throughout this catalog are interesting and important offerings of artwork and ephemera. The art lots include an original painting and a print signed, "Tamayo," and a large collection of original Vanity Fair chromolithograph caricatures. The ephemera lots include early maps & cartography, signatures of literary & historical figures, antique stereoviews featuring railroad and Upstate New York scenes, Lincoln-related items, antique postcards, magazines, chromolithographs, tobacciana, stamps, travel, original antique correspondence, antique photographs, and other genres. The collectibles in this auction are led by a private collection of vintage navy flags including a massive example from a Russian battleship.
