This catalog features rare, antique and decorative books as well as select additions of art, ephemera and antiques. Featured is an impressive array of rare books dating back to the 1600s, including early Americana. We will offer a quantity of new and antique nautical titles, focused on seafaring history and ship modeling. Many offerings in this catalog present first and early printings of classic titles by authors such as Herman Melville, Mark Twain, Lord Byron and Nathaniel Hawthorne.
Antique and rare books in this catalog feature numerous important titles, including a pleasing selection of early American works. Among the earliest examples are the 1676 printing of "A Collection of the Several Wrightings of that True Prophet .... William Bayly," "A New and Complete Dictionary of Arts and Sciences" published in four volumes with fold-out plates during the years1763-1764, and the 1702 first printing of Sharp's "A Sermon Preach'd at the Coronation of Queen Anne." Highlights among the early Americana works are led by several 18th century titles by and about Benjamin Franklin, the complete first edition set in 42 volumes of "The Debates and Proceedings in the Congress of the United States," published in 1834-1856, and the 1766 "Journal of the Votes and Proceedings of the General Assembly of the Colony of New York."
This catalog also offers interesting collections including first and early printings of classic literary works. Among these are titles by Mark Twain such as "Life on the Mississippi" and "The Tragedy of Pudd'head Wilson." Several Herman Melville titles will also be offered including "Israel Potter," "Mardi," and "The Refugee." Hawthorne collectors will be pleased to find "Mosses from an Old Manse" and "Our Old Home." Also featured is the 1815 first edition of Lord Byron's "Hebrew Melodies." Other desirable collections include art history works, highlighted by a copy of "Marc Chagall: The Jerusalem Windows," with the two original color lithographs present. Additional collections include titles from genres such as children's, Civil War, history, theology and many others.
Found throughout this catalog are pleasing groups of art, ephemera and antiques. Of particular note is a group of early American state maps, printed in the 1790s. Antique items include a fur sleigh lap robe, a beautiful Japanese porcelain tea set and a large selection of vintage and antique records.
