Modern Signed Literature, NY Cartography at National Book Auctions
ITHACA, NY—National Book Auctions, located in Ithaca, NY, announces the launch of their next auction catalog.
This catalog features rare, antique and decorative books as well as select additions of ephemera and artwork. Highlighted are fine private collections including author-signed modern literature, antique architecture and furnishings, and antique New York State county histories and cartography. The artwork is led by original paintings by, or in the style of, Lyubov Popova and Natalia Goncharova.
Antique and rare books in this catalog feature numerous titles. Among the earliest examples are a Christopher Barker Bible printed in 1599, the 1627 printing of
Ambrogio Calepino's "Dictionarium Undecim Linguarum," and the 1753 first edition of Robert Wood's "Ruines de Palmyre Autrement Dite Tedmor au Desert," published in folio format with numerous plates. Other scarce titles include the signed 1928 limited edition of D. H. Lawrence's "Lady Chatterly's Lover," accompanied by a postcard signed by the author and addressed to his then-mistress, and the 1980 first edition of Schumann's "The Dream Of A Dirty Woman," accompanied by an LP recording of the Bread & Puppet performance.
Several pleasing collections will also be featured. A fine selection of early texts relating to architecture and furnishings includes illustrated examples such as the 1847 printing of Hills and Austin's "Builder's Guide / Villa and School Architecture," the 1769 folio first edition of Revett, Chandler and Pars' "Ionian Antiquities," and Shaw and Meyrick's "Specimens of Ancient Furniture," first published in 1836. Signed modern literature includes works by popular authors such as Ed McBain, Clive Barker, Mickey Spillane, Michael Crichton, Sue Grafton, Harlan Ellison and many others. Part of an estate library that is being offered includes a quantity of 19th century New York State county histories, atlases and wall maps. Another estate library includes a wide array of railroad history titles, along with other steam power-related works and antique photographs of locomotives. Additional collections include antique children's books, Civil War history, Americana, and much more.
Found throughout this catalog are offerings of artwork, ephemera and other collectibles. In addition to the original art pieces is a selection of fine, artist-signed, limited edition lithographs, engravings and prints by celebrated artists such as Douglas Gorsline, Louis Lozowick, Philip Pearlstein, Jack Levine and others. Ephemera lots include antique postcards, magazines, chromolithographs, stamps, travel-related, original antique correspondence, antique photographs, and other genres. The collectibles are led by a coin collection fresh from a local estate.
