Catawiki Holds Exclusive Cartography Auction

Courtesy of Catawiki

The Ortelius World Atlas.

Amsterdam – Catawiki is proud to continue our tradition of offering exciting maps and views in our Exclusive Cartography auction.

This month we are offering several top items without a reserve price, for example a lovely Blaeu map of Africa. Dating from around 1645 -- this is one of the most decorative African maps of the Seventeenth Century.

Also from 1645 is a scarce and unusual Map of the Moon -- also without reserve and  created by Johannes Hevelius (the founder of modern selenography (or Lunar Geography) and the first foreign member of the Royal Society in London.

Even older, is a high quality map of the City of Paris from 1575. Or if you are searching for a summer holiday destination, then we have a lovely map of Malta by Frederic de Wit from 1680. Both of these are already framed so they are ready to grace your wall immediately.

In need of some love to the binding, but still with 45 beautiful engraved double plates is the Ortelius World Atlas, with a very realistic reserve, and the potential to make a substantial addition to any atlas collection.

There will be plenty of other attractive items available to bid on in this auction, from sellers based around the world. Each month we are offered more items, giving our experts the opportunity to select better pieces for you to acquire.

The Exclusive Cartography auction will be online starting Friday 24th June 2022 closing 30th June 2022 at 18:01 UTC and will be visible at the following link: https://www.catawiki.com/en/a/644063-exclusive-cartography-auction1

Marc Harrison, category manager Books, Manuscripts & Cartography at Catawiki: “There are some lovely views within the Exclusive Cartography auction this month, and when they are offered without reserve (or with very low reserves) they offer you an unmissable opportunity to acquire a statement piece for your home or office”
