Bonhams has opened its new U.S. headquarters at 111 West 57th Street in New York to the public.
The new U.S. flagship aims to serve as a public cultural destination in one of the city's celebrated addresses which is home to Steinway Hall and the world's thinnest skyscraper, designed by SHoP Architects.
Across four floors, the HQ is purpose-built to accommodate Bonhams' 60+ sales categories including rare books, manuscripts, photographs, maps, and other paper ephemera alongside state-of-the-art auction rooms, on-site storage facilities, multiple client receptions, and workspace for all staff.
"Opening our new U.S. flagship marks a defining moment for Bonhams," said Lilly Chan, Managing Director, Bonhams U.S. "This building enables a more experiential approach to the way we engage with collectors, audiences, and partners, bringing together exhibitions, auctions and public programming in a far more expansive and meaningful way."
Seth Johnson, Bonhams CEO, added: "This new headquarters represents both continuity and ambition for Bonhams. By establishing our U.S. home within Steinway Hall, we are honouring a site deeply embedded in New York's cultural history while creating a space designed for the way collectors engage today. It is a long-term investment in the United States and a clear expression of our confidence in the strength and future of Bonhams globally."
Bonhams was founded in 1793, and now has main salerooms in London, New York, Los Angeles and Hong Kong, with auctions also held in Knightsbridge, Edinburgh, Paris, San Francisco and Sydney.
