Barraband Prints Lead Leslie Hindman Sale of Natural History and Historical Prints
The inaugural Fine Natural History and Historical Prints at Leslie Hindman Auctioneers, one of the Nation’s premier fine art auction houses, was a resounding success.
Ornithological works led the sale, including two watercolors of birds of paradise, by Jacques Barraband, which sold separately for $146,500 and $86,500, and John James Audubon’s Wild Turkey, the first plate in The Birds of America, which brought $92,500.
The auction room witnessed lively bidding from over 600 registered bidders from 15 countries represented online, in person and on the telephones.
"We were thrilled by the amount of interest in this sale,” exclaimed Mary Kohnke, Director of Fine Books and Manuscripts, “and definitely look forward to building this genre of collecting and offering similar sales in 2015.”
