Tywin Lannister's Histories of the Greater and Lesser Houses: Rare Book of the Week
This week's choice was owned by Tywin Lannister (played by Charles Dance) in the television series Game of Thrones.
The brown leather-bound Histories of the Greater and Lesser Houses prop appeared in episode six of season two of the HBO adaption of George R. R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire sequence. It includes some text on eight pages of translucent parchment paper featuring gold calligraphy and colorful artwork between hundreds of blank, yellowed pages. There is alsosoartwork on the spine and cover. It measures 16.5" x 13" x 3".
In the episode The Old Gods and the New Tywin Lannister asks Arya Stark to retrieve the book - a compilation of the history of the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros' noble houses - while he is at Harrenhal. "Girl, fetch me the history of the greater and the lesser houses." The book is not mentioned in Martin's original text.
It sold at Heritage Auctions' recent Game of Thrones sale for $11,875.
