The Brooklyn Holiday Book Fair was founded by Heather O’Donnell in 2012, the same year she launched her rare book business Honey and Wax Booksellers. At that time, O’Donnell explains, “there was no established rare book scene in the borough—no galleries, no auctions, no fairs—but the active interest and investment in print culture, old and new, made Brooklyn seem like a promising place to develop new collectors.” “Now, over the past few years,” O’Donnell adds, “the center of literary-historical gravity has shifted across the East River, with the Brooklyn Book Festival, the brand new Brooklyn Antiques & Book Fair, the NY Art Book Fair, and all the vintage, secondhand, and antiquarian shops and institutions like Proteus Gowanus, Morbid Anatomy Museum, Mellow Pages, and the Brooklyn Flea.”
