In the main gallery, Embraced: The International Community, organized by Richard Minsky, Founder, Center for Book Arts, explores the Center's place within the international sphere of book artists. In the ancillary galleries, /mit ð? det?/: Source Materials Visualized, organized by Alexander Campos, Executive Director & Curator, Center for Book Arts, and Heidi Neilson, artist and Co-Founder of SP Weather Station, considers how book artists are making works structured from concrete data. An opening reception will take place July 8, 2015 from 6 to 8pm at the Center. Roundtable discussions with artists from both shows are scheduled throughout the summer.
Embraced: The International Community
Organized by Richard Minsky, Founder, Center for Book Arts
Embraced: The International Community examines the influence the Center has had on the international book arts scene as well as the international artists who have come to the Center to study, exhibit, or teach. This is the fourth and final exhibition of the Center's 40th anniversary year-long celebration, each of which featured and documented a particular program. Curator Richard Minsky founded the Center for Book Arts in 1974 as the first independent, non-profit institution dedicated to preserving the traditional artistic practices of bookmaking, as well as exploring and encouraging contemporary interpretations of the book as an art object.

Organized by Alexander Campos, Executive Director & Curator, Center for Book Arts, and Heidi Neilson, artist and Co-Founder of SP Weather Station.
/mit ð? det?/: Source Materials Visualized--the title of which includes the phonetic spelling of "Meet the Data"--explores how artists use the ever-present data in our lives today as a medium or method in their work. Presented here are artists' books, book-related artworks, and text-based new media that are visual interpretations, extrapolations, and recontextualizations of researched source materials such as data analysis, surveying, mapping, plotting, data mining, statistics, analytics, observations, and schemes. The exhibition features artist members of the Center as well as invited artists to further the discourse of the exhibition's theme.

About the Center for Book Arts
The Center for Book Arts is committed to exploring and cultivating contemporary aesthetic interpretations of the book as an art object, while invigorating traditional artistic practices of the art of the book. Founded in 1974, it was the first not-for-profit organization of its kind in the nation, and it has since become a model for others around the world. The Center seeks to facilitate communication between the book arts community and the larger spheres of contemporary art and literature through exhibitions, classes, public programming, literary presentations, opportunities for artists and writers, publications and collecting. As American Craft magazine noted, "Dropping in on the bustling Center for Book Arts...is to experience the special pleasure of viewing an intrinsically intimate art form in a venue where it is taught and made."
