The new Sylvia Townsend Warner statue
A life-size bronze of writer Sylvia Townsend Warner has been unveiled in Dorchester her home county of Dorset in England.
Warner (1893-1978) is best known for her 1926 novel Lolly Willowes and owes much of her present day popularity to the Virago Modern Classics series which revived her reputation. She lived in Dorset with her long-term term partner Valentine Ackland
The £60,000 life-sized bronze statue project was crowdfunded and organised by the Visible Women UK charity which campaigns to raise statues to women in the UK. The statue by artist Denise Dutton stands outside Gould's department store in Dorchester's South Street and shows Warner sitting on a public bench with a cat at her feet.
