This significant manuscript leaf, crafted by Thoreau in 1854 from the draft for Walden contains an extensive passage from the chapter Sounds which reflects his contemplation on the unchanging nature of human disposition. It contains passages in both ink and pencil.
Other highlights include:
* handwritten letters from physicists Albert Einstein and J. Robert Oppenheimer, Einstein's delving into his groundbreaking theories, Oppenheimer's reflecting on the era of nuclear proliferation
* a rare accounting document signed by King Henry VII, annotated and signed for lands confiscated from beheaded political enemies
* an autographed Beatles promotion photo, which, according to the consignor, was obtained during their iconic debut appearance at the London Palladium in 1963.
The Fine Autographs and Artifacts auction ends on March 13.
