Original Drawing for Tintin in America Cover Sold for $2.3m

Artcurial has auctioned Hergé’s original drawing for the 1942 cover of the album Tintin in America, which was then used in 1946 for the first colour edition of the album.
After a bidding battle during the The World of Hergé, Tintin’s Creator sale, this Indian ink drawing was sold on February 10 for €2,158,400 ($2,303,671), a new world record for an original black and white drawing by Hergé.

Another 103 lots dedicated to Tintin and his world were also offered for sale. Among them was:
- Coke in Stock, a pencil drawing for page 42 of this album, which was sold for €216,480 ($231,000)
- another pencil page of Flight 714 for Sydney sold for €209,920 ($224,084)
- a spectacular drawing in Indian ink and watercolour for the 20th anniversary card of Le Journal de Tintin went for €52,480 ($56,021)
- a drawing inspired by the world of the Blue Lotus sold for €39,360 ($42,015)
