New Orleans Auction Galleries Features “The Southern Experience”

(NEW ORLEANS, LA) — New Orleans Auction Galleries today opened exhibition of their February auction. With nearly 1,400 lots slated for auction, including fine paintings, antiques, decorative art and more, the auction will take place over a period of two days; Saturday, Feb. 23 and Sunday, Feb. 24, starting at 10 a.m.

The auction will feature “The Southern Experience”: a celebration of American Southern regional artists, including works by:

  • Painters: George Rodrigue, Marie Madeleine, Seebold Molinary, Knute Heldner and Ella Miriam Wood
  • Outsider artists: Mose Tolliver and William Hemmerling
  • Contemporary artists: Mark Bercier and Lousie Guidry

Several works by famous Cajun artist George Rodrigue will be up for auction. The proceeds of Rodrigue’s painting “My Yellow Oak” will go to benefit the George Rodrigue Foundation of the Arts. Other notable auction items include continental porcelain from 18th century Paris Porcelain through 20th century Flora Danica, a large collection of Chinese furniture, American coin silver, fine jewelry, accessories, and more.

“We work very hard to ensure that each auction has an even better collection of items than the last,” said New Orleans Auction Galleries CEO and owner, Susan D. Krohn. “We know that it will be tough to top the success of our grand opening celebration and auction but we have been very impressed by the interest shown by both consigners and buyers. In particular, the southern art up for bid in this auction is truly incredible.”

Guests are welcome to view the exhibition lots at the Gallery Feb. 13 - Feb. 22, between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. excluding Sundays. In addition, an evening preview party is scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 21 from 5 - 8 p.m.
