New Dates for Ladybird Books Exhibition Announced
New dates have been announced for the excellent travelling exhibition The Wonderful World of the Ladybird Artists which is currently on at Braintree Museum, Essex until July 1 2023.
The exhibition focuses on the artist who drew the illustrations for Ladybird books over more than three decades and is curated by Ladybird expert and enthusiast Helen Day, who has spent over 20 years researching the company and collecting Ladybird books and related items.
Split into several zones and themes (The Early Years, Nature and the Environment, History, Fairy Tales, Jobs and Technology, Learning to Read, How to Make a Ladybird Book), it features a unique collection of books, original artwork and artefacts and shows how the part that the talented Ladybird illustrators played in the remarkable success of the Loughborough-based print company in the last century, particularly over its ‘golden years’ between 1940 and 1975.
After successful shows in various British locations including Canterbury, Leicester, Ayr, Gloucester, Great Yarmouth and Shrewsbury, after Braintree it moves to Bailiffgate Museum, Alnwick, over Summer 2023, then to The Victoria Art Gallery, Bath, for Spring 2024, and St Albans Museum in Summer 2024.
