Mucha Postcards, Comics, and Posters: Auction Preview
A fairly quiet week coming up, but here are the sales I'll be keeping an eye on:
At Trafford Books on Wednesday, August 2, 253 lots of books, ephemera and autographs in their Auction No. 419, including some interesting group and shelf lots of books and ephemera.
Swann Galleries sells 374 lots of Vintage Posters on Thursday, August 3. A collection of 115 Alphonse Mucha postcards from the turn of the twentieth century is expected to lead the way at $60,000–90,000, and several Mucha posters are also among the lots expected to sell well. Toulouse-Lautrec's 1892 poster for Aristide Bruant is estimated at $50,000–75,000.
At PBA Galleries on Thursday, 308 comics lots, including the first part of the Atlas Comics sale (lots 1–184) and the second part of the Steve Ditko Collection (lots 287–305). Twenty-seven pages of original comic art by Eric Stanton for "Blundie in Blunderland" rate the top estimate at $40,000–60,000. The Ditko copy of The Amazing Spider Man #1 (1963) is estimated at $8,000–12,000, while his copy of The Amazing Spider Man #2 (1963) could sell for $5,000–8,000.
