Marvin Getman Launches 'First Thursday Book and Paper Marketplace'
Five years ago at the age of 70 when the pandemic forced the cancellation of his many shows, veteran show promoter Marvin Getman championed the concept of virtual book fairs and virtual antiques shows.
At that time, rather than retire after 40 years of producing shows, he decided to develop something he had long considered, producing his shows in a virtual format which he launched in June 2020, a platform that showcased the exhibitor “booths” in an attractive format.
This January, he will rebrand as 'First Thursday Book and Paper Marketplace'. As the name suggests, these markets will appear online starting on the first Thursday of every month and continuing for three days ending on a Saturday.
"I have built a strong following and anticipate that exhibitors as well as the show’s followers, including collectors, dealers, librarians, and casual shoppers, will appreciate this more regular and easy-to-remember schedule," he said.
Along with the name change, listing fees will be reduced by 30-40% and a new loyalty program will be introduced, offering a free run to exhibitors for every four paid runs. Free listings for items priced $100 or less will also be introduced to attract new collectors who will be targeted with a social media campaign.
