With the publication of Marvellously Revolting Recipes inspired by Roald Dahl’s works published by Puffin, Bonhams is marking the occasion with a special auction entitled Marvellously Revolting Recipes: Works Sold to Benefit Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity. The online sale runs until October 20, with estimates ranging from £50-5,000.

The sale features a collection of illustrations from the recipe book, with many of the illustrators donating their original artwork for the special charity auction. Proceeds of the sale will benefit Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity which provides specialist nurses and support for children and families living with some of the most serious and complex health conditions in the UK.

Highlights of the sale include six illustrations by Sir Quentin Blake who worked closely with Dahl, creating the images for some of Dahl’s most iconic works. Lots from the sale, including Blake’s Illustration for Hot Noodles Made from Poodles on a Slice of Garden Hose from James and the Giant Peach (estimate: £1,500-2,000) along with his Illustration for The Enormous Crocodile from The Enormous Crocodile (estimate: £1,000-1,500) retrace this rich relationship.

Sir Quentin Blake, co-president of Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity, commented: “It was marvellous creating the drawings for this wonderful book, but the benefits from their proceeds is really, really marvellous.”

Commenting on the book, Dame Joanna Lumley, a patron of the Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity, said: “Aunt Spiker would hate it, but I adore this marvellously subversive cookbook, filled with inspiring pictures and delicious recipes. The Fried Snowballs would make her shriek with rage.”
