Larry McMurtry Estate Auction Results
Results from the Vogt Auction Galleries sale of bookseller and writer Larry McMurtry's personal estate from his home in Archer City, Texas, this week included:
* A cast-signed set of the four books in the Lonesome Dove saga including Robert Duvall, Anjelica Huston, Chris Cooper, and Margo Martindale, as well as McMurtry which went for $36,000
* McMurtry's Arts and Crafts partners desk, manufactured by Roycroft Community around 1910-1915, used by him for works including his Academy Award-winning screenplay for Brokeback Mountain sold for $30,000
* A selection of his typewriters (including eight of his favourite Hermes 3000 which still work) and several others which he cannibalized for parts, made various figures ranging from $3,300 to $7,800
* A signed first edition of his slim In a Narrow Grave: Essays on Texas, 1968, first published in a run of 250 by Austin publisher Encino Press, signed by McMurtry, sold for $10,800
* A stained glass window in decorative bookshelf motif was sold for $1,680
* A pair of vintage iron bookends, each in the figure of a bear standing on an uneven stone ground ended at $1,800
* McMurtry's wooden newspaper rack went for $4,800
There were more than 5,000 registered bidders before the auction started and several hundred in person.
