ILAB Breslauer Prize for Bibliography 2026
The ILAB Breslauer Prize for Bibliography sponsored by the International League of Antiquarian Booksellers returns next year for its 19th edition of the prize celebrating contributions to the field of bibliography and book history.
It is awarded by an internatinal jury every four years to the author of the best published or unpublished work of learned bibliography, research into the history of the book or book trade, book design or binding, typography, or books of general interest on the subject in any language and published anywhere in the world.
The prize, which considers submitted works published between 2022 and 2026, is named for Dr. Bernard H. Breslauer (1918-2004), an ILAB bookseller particularly interested in bibliography. The 2022 winner was Jack Baldwin and his two-volume A Catalogue of Fifteenth-Century Printed Books in Glasgow Libraries and Museums (Woodbridge: Boydell and Brewer, 2020).
First prize is $10,000, with second and third prizes of $5,000 and $3,000. Judges may also award Honourable Mentions to other deserving entries, and for the first time three additional prizes of $1,000 to submissions from an Asian, African, and Central/South American publisher to encourage authors from underrepresented regions. Booksellers Asia Bookroom, Peter Harrington, Scott DeWolfe and Charles Kutcher have sponsored these additional prizes.
Final date for submission is May 1, 2026.
