First Antiquarian Book Fair in Portugal: 1º Salão do Livro Antigo
New book fair 1º Salão do Livro Antigo will take place in the Casa Municipal de Cultura in Coimbra, Portugal, running October 4 - 6.
"For the first time in the last couple of decades, Portugal will have an antiquarian book fair," Francisco Brito from Livraria Cólofon told Fine Books. "Besides the book fair itself the event will have several conferences by some of the major Portuguese experts in rare books and ephemera. I believe the existence of this event is a major step in the antiquarian book trade standards in Portugal."
The book fair is being organized by the antiquarian bookseller Miguel de Carvalho in partnership with Coimbra municipality and will feature exhibitors from Lisbon, Óbidos, Guimarães, Porto, and Caldas da Rainha including Livraria Miguel de Carvalho, Livraria Manuel Ferreira, Bernardo Trindade Art & Rare Books, Livraria Cólofon, Livraria Artes e Letras, Livraria Esquina, Livraria In Libris, Livraria Liliana Queiroz and Livraria Gostar de Ler.
The first conference on Friday will be Bibliophilia today given by Miguel de Carvalho, followed on Saturday by a debate on Scientific literature and bibliophilia, and another on The century of Camões in Portuguese Bibliophilia with José Augusto Bernardes. On Sunday Catarina Alarcão will speak on Caring for the Book before Conversations around Bibliophilia with António Valdemar and José Pacheco Pereira.
