Fashion Library, Velvet Underground LP, and more: Auction Preview
Here are the auctions I'll be watching this week:
At New England Book Auctions, 203 lots of Fine Books & Ephemera on Tuesday, March 7. The usual wide range of material here, including L. Frank Baum's The Navy Alphabet (1900); a lot of some 150 stereoview cards; and a 1786 York edition of John Evelyn's Sylva. Several of the shelf lots may be of interest so do give this one a look.
Forum Auctions sells Flair: Fashion, Photography and Design: The Library of Håkan Rosenius on Thursday, March 9, in 279 lots. A near complete set of the fashion magazine Visionaire, with many variant issues, is expected to lead the sale at £15,000–20,000. The Nazraeli Press photographic work Six by Six could sell for £5,000–7,000. A deluxe copy of the 1997 sale catalogue of designer dresses from the collection of Princess Diana is estimated at £3,000–4,000.
At Swann Galleries on Thursday, 403 lots of Vintage Posters. Sharing the top estimate of $10,000–15,000 are Evelyn Rumsey Cary's poster for the 1901 Pan-American Exposition in Buffalo, Maxfield Parrish's design for the 1896 Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts Poster Show, and a 1930 Roger Broders design featuring a crowd watching a bobsled race.
PBA Galleries sells 494 lots of Fine Literature and Poetry with Beats, Bukowski & the Counterculture on Thursday, including twenty issues of the Sutter Street Commune magazine Kaliflower ($8,000–12,000); a copy of the 1967 LP The Velvet Underground and Nico, signed by Andy Warhol ($5,000–8,000); several Hunter S. Thompson letters, and a number of original drawings and paintings by Charles Bukowski.
