Christine Farrell’s DC Comics Collection Sold for $5.26m
Heritage Auctions’ sale of Christine Farrell’s collection of DC Comics titles plus original works of art has beaten its estimates by making $5,261,617.
“Christine’s journey to gather these iconic comics has gifted us not only a legendary collection but also a moment to celebrate the rich legacy of comic history,” said Heritage Auctions Vice President Lon Allen. “Watching so many of her pieces find new homes was truly special”
Heritage will present books from Farrell’s collection into the summer of 2025.
Highlights from the sale included:
- a copy of Action Comics No. 1 from 1938, sold for $324,000.
- a copy of Flash Comics No. 1, sold for $174,000
- Harry G. Peter’s unpublished page from the Wonder Woman story Nuclear, the Magnetic Menace dating from the late 1940s made $40,800
- one of only nine known copies of Double Action Comics No. 2, sold for $132,000
- a copy of More Fun Comics No. 52, featuring the debut of the Spectre, went for $132,000
- a copy of 1938’s New Adventure Comics No. 27 with cover by Creig Flessel, sold for $168,000
In Heritage’s separate The Art of Anime and Everything Cool auction items from the animated version of Charles Schultz’s Peanuts and A Charlie Brown Christmas produced by Bill Melendez in 1965 included a production cel with Key Master background featuring Charlie Brown and Lucy at her snowy outdoor “PSYCHIATRIC HELP” desk, which sold for $36,000, as well as a production cel with Master background featuring the Peanuts characters walking out into the night to greet their new Christmas tree ($24,000), plus a production/color model cel of Snoopy swinging Linus by his blanket sold ($16,800).
