Book, Ephemera, Art and Collectibles Auction: Bourke-White, Engravings, Film
ITHACA, NY—National Book Auctions, located in Ithaca, NY, announces the launch of their next auction catalog.
This catalog features rare, antique and decorative books as well as select additions of ephemera, artwork and collectibles. Of particular interest is an impressive collection of exhibit photographs by Margaret Bourke-White and an assortment of film memorabilia. This catalog also includes our next session from a large and impressive private collection of early engravings. Dispersed among the many book lots is our second session of early titles from the field of Chemistry.
Antique and rare books in this catalog feature numerous titles. Among the earliest examples are the 1793 first edition of Dalton's "Meteorological Observations and Essays," bound in decorative leather, the first American edition of the "Encyclopaedia or a Dictionary of Arts, Sciences and Miscellaneous Literature," produced in fourteen volumes with engraved plates over the years 1798 through 1803, and the three-volume 1788 printing of the "Dictionnaire Historique Politique et Geographique de la Suisse," retaining the original hand-colored fold-out map. Other scarce titles include the 1932 and 1935 Limited Editions Club printings of "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland" and "Through the Looking Glass and What Alice Found There," signed by Alice Liddell Hargreaves and Frederic Warde, and the 1846 first edition of "Galleria Storica dell'Italia Contenente in Cento Intagli Miniati i Fatti Piu Notabili Avvenuti Nel Corso di X Secoli," cased in two decorative leather-bound volumes and featuring color plates.
Several pleasing collections will also be featured. Included is our second session from a substantial private library concentrated in the field of Chemistry, including examples such as 1790 and 1799 printings of Lavoisier's "Elements of Chemistry in a New Systematic Order," each with fold-out plates, and the 1827 first edition of Davy's "Six Discourses Delivered before the Royal Society." Additional fine collections center on decorative antique volumes with quality plates, travel & exploration, and antique textile & dyeing reference. Throughout the catalog are desirable titles from categories such as decorative antique bindings, modern first edition fiction, military history, New York, early Americana, cartography, the American West, natural history, technology & engineering, and much more.
Found throughout this catalog are interesting offerings of ephemera, artwork and collectibles. An important collection of Margaret Bourke-White photographs from a period exhibition will be offered, including stark concentration camp examples. We're pleased to conduct another session of items from a very large private collection of early engravings, many of which are hand-colored. Engravings in the collection date back to the 16th century and categories include cartography, equestrian, ornithology, natural history, architecture, botanical, and more. Numerous lots feature film and Hollywood memorabilia including posters, lobby cards, press books, postcards and novel editions of films. Important early maps dating back to the sixteenth century will be sold, alongside antique ephemera lots incorporating postcards (including Halloween), railroad-related, antique magazines, travel-related, original antique correspondence, antique photographs, billheads, stamps, and other genres. The collectibles are led by a fine assortment of antique items and an eclectic belt buckle collection.
