As the Rosenbach considers the fascinating history of the American presidency in its new exhibition Succession: Why Presidential History Matters Now, join us for a unique, behind-the-scenes glimpse into the world of buying and selling historical books and documents with Nathan Raab, one of the world’s premier dealers in early Americana. The evening will begin with a conversation between Raab and Succession’s co-curators, Rosenbach staff members Dr. Alexander L. Ames and Judith M. Guston, about what it’s like to work in the rare book, manuscript, and autograph trade, and how the market for early Americana has evolved since the time of our founder, the famed bookseller and American history enthusiast Dr. A.S.W. Rosenbach. Then, join Raab, Ames and Guston in the Succession galleries for a private tour of the exhibition, and to hear their insights into the incredible pieces of presidential history on display in the show. They will each present their favorite single item on display in Succession, from their own unique viewpoints. Copies of Raab’s book The Hunt for History will be available for purchase and autographing in the Rosenbach lobby following the gallery tour.
