The remarkable book La Prose du Transsibérien, was produced by letterpress and pochoir in 1913. It was a landmark achievement for its time and remains so today, often viewed as one of the greatest illustrated books of the 20th century.
For many years, Kitty Maryatt of Two Hands Press has devoted her attention on studying La Prose du Transsibérien. In 2018, she debuted a new fine press version; at the same time, Maryatt commissioned fine bindings by notable design binders from around the world. The resultant bindings, along with Maryatt’s version of La Prose du Transiberien have produced a traveling exhibition titled Drop Dead Gorgeous: Fine Bindings of La Prose du Transsiberien Re-creation.
Debuting in San Francisco, the exhibition will feature the work of twenty two design binders. Tools, materials, and supplemental material used in the creation of Maryatt’s edition will also be on display.
