There are a number of fine lots featured on this auction, including:
Lot 1, Sir R. Burton's translation of the mildly erotic Middle Eastern folk tales, The Book Of The Thousand Nights And A Night (1897). The twelve grand volumes are cased in a leather casket.
Sclater and Thomas' The Book of Antelopes (4 volumes), 1894-1900, consists of a 100 beautiful hand coloured lithographic plates of various species of antelopes (lot 2).
Lieutenant William Bligh's The Log of the Bounty (1937) is a Golden Cockerel Press first edition of Lieutenant Bligh's Log Book. Here he recorded a mutiny now regarded as one of the most dramatic events in British naval history (lot 10).
There are a number of collectible ephemeral items. Lot 3 is a cheque signed by Cecil John Rhodes in 1896, made out to JW Colenbrander. This was for Colenbrander's role as interpreter for Rhode’s during the First Umvukela Indaba following the Matabele uprising of 1896.
Also, an Auschwitz Prisoner Letter Dated 1942, written to his wife presumably under strict regulations (lot 18).
