Fairs and auctions
February 3-5: Rare Books San Francisco - For the first time in more than a decade, antiquarian book fairs return to the Golden Gate City at The Hibernia. Find ticket information here.
February 10-12: California International Antiquarian Book Fair at the Pasadena Convention Center. Special exhibitions include: Helen Brown: Bibliophile and Champion of West Coast Cuisine; The Game's Afoot: Collecting Sherlock Holmes; What the Hell is Ukulele Literature?; Pushing the Envelope: Southern California Women Bookmakers; and California Young Book Collector Prize: Whitney Milam's Dueling Public Narratives of Byron and Shelley. February 9: PBA Platinum's Rare Books & Manuscripts Auction at the Pasadena Convention Center. A selection of 85 rare and valuable books and manuscripts in all fields, plus a selection of material donated by members of the Antiquarian Booksellers’ Association of America, sold to benefit the Antiquarian Booksellers’ Benevolent Fund.
Exhibitions
January 28-March 19: San Francisco Center for the Book's exhibition Positively Charged: Copier Art in the Bay Area Since the 1960s offers a look at the role the color copier played in avant-garde art movements in the Bay Area. Jointly at the San Francisco Center for the Book and San Francisco Public Library.
January 30 - March 27: The new exhibition at The Book Club of California is From the Printed Work of Jo Mora which focuses on the creative career of the writer, illustrator, cartoonist, and printer.
January 31- April 23: A Passion for Collection Manuscripts at the Getty Museum. This exhibition of illuminated manuscripts features sections on Libraries, Owner’s Marks, Collectors in the Modern Age, and Provenance in Focus.
